Circuit City Files for Bankruptcy

I saw this one coming from a mile away.  Circuit City Files for Bankruptcy.

You can only have shoddy stores and push sales people for so long.    I was in a Circuit City several months back, and vowed never to go again.  Best Buy seems to have the better store layout, and mostly great sales people on the floor.

Circuit City was the electronics store in the area I live in for quite some time.  They just seemed to go down hill rather quickly starting about ten years ago.

There is mention in the article of not being able to receive goods in time for black Friday if they do not get relief.  I wonder how big black Friday will be this year anyways?

Remember when Circuit City was a favorite in “Good to Great” by Jim Collins? Remember when we thought being big gave you clout with customers and vendors to produce long-term returns (Michael Porter’s 5 Forces Model)? It’s time we recognize that the old approach to management doesn’t work in a rapidly shifting competitive world. There are winners in today’s market, but they follow a different approach.
