Google SafeSearch Lock

by Dan Perry on November 11, 2009

Google really seems to be churning out the enhancements lately.  The latest that caught my eye was an update to SafeSearch.  They have given users the ability now to lock SafeSearch on a computer and require a password to change it.  According to Google two things change when using this new feature.  First you will need to enter a password when making changes to SafeSearch.  When locked SafeSearch is enabled search results will have a special image in the top right corner.  While SafeSearch is not 100% effective it does generally do a great job at keeping sexually explicit websites and images from your searches.  The visual cue will be great at letting you know at a glance if the feature is active.

Here is a screen shot that shows the dialog when setting up SafeSearch lock.

I think the safe search will really be something people use more… it’s always been there, but not being able to lock the settings made it easy to turn off. Now it’s a viable option to blocking illicit content from young minds.

I agree – I recently turned it on – on our family computer – seems to be working well. Thanks for stopping by.
