The reef tank continues to come along well. I have a decent sized colony of green star polyps.
I also have a rose bubble tip sea anemone that has grown to a decent size from a small baby. I learned a big lesson over the last few weeks in aquarium keeping. I was having a problem with temperature creep. Granted this is on a 30 gallon cube – so heat is going to be an issue with 2 power heads and a return pump. But my temperatures were starting to creep up above 82 degrees. I tried cracking the lid open and blowing a fan across the water. All that helped with was to evaporate more water. I was stuck. One evening as I was doing maintenance on the tank – I noticed a snail was stuck in the intake on the return pump.
As I reached down to remove him – my hand brushed the tank heater and it was HOT. I checked the thermostat and it was set to 78. I decided to turn it down to 68 and see if that made a difference. Unfortunately it did not. It looked like it was stuck on full blast. After remove the heater and replacing it – I have been holding a steady 79 degrees day and night.
